Very attractive period hotel. We had a very pleasant room and an excellent evening meal in the restaurant.
A minor quibble, perhaps, but the quality image that this hotel warrants is dented by the apparent penny-pinching on some basic items. Very poor quality toilet paper with practically useless perforations, for example, and a very limited buffet section at breakfast with no meusli and a choice of strawberry or strawberry yoghourt. The cooked breakfast, however, was excellent. It brings to mind the old proverb: "spoiling the ship for a ha'porth of tar".
Excellent rooms, good breakfast and well stocked and reasonably priced bar.
Helpful and friendly staff and well positioned hotel for sight seeing in Kent
Although the full English breakfast on offer was good there was not very much as an alternative
The hotel was in an excellent location close to Tunbridge Wells town centre and the restaurant we ate at (Thakerays) was a short walk away, the room was comfortable and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
The place felt a bit run down, the front of the hotel is quite grand, but ruined by the huge crack at the top of the building near the crest which makes the hotel look past it's best days. We had a basic room, which was lovely but slightly dated compared to the grander more expensive rooms that have obviously been redone recently.
nice greeting from receptionist on Sunday. Excellent bathroom.
Not very friendly staff. Shabby room decor.Very poor breakfast using cheap produce.
Nice friendly people, fair facilities, convenient situation, good parking availability, good value for money. Suited a weekend in Tunbridge Wells ideally.
Faded 'yesteryear' appearance of the public areas.
Friendly staff & helpfull staff
I thought the decor & furnishings were really good & added to my enjoyment during my stay.
Friendly staff in a relaxing comfortable atmosphere. Excellent for commuting to business in London. One of my favourite hotels in England.
Excellent location for visiting the gardens of Kent.
Relaxing evening following a long drive prior to business meeting
Friendly and attentive staff. Restaurant staff were receptive and very accomodating to catering needs and they were able to provide Gluten/Wheat free meals. I was even able to order extra rashers of bacon for breakfast to make up for not having the sausage, toast and pastries. It makes a big difference to have a good breakfast to set one up for the day! Reception area sofas were inviting and sunny enough to entice us to sit and read the (free) newspapers on our way back from breakfast. Parking available (free) just outside to hotel.
The decor is a bit of a mix and mash of old and new, not one style or the other. Some parts have been updated and are contemporary whilst other areas have a traditional and 'tired' look. This wouldn't stop us from from staying in the hotel again though (In the same room)
Quirky room decor - Like it! Appearance was great as was location, food, comfort. Would love to come back. Best value of our holiday
Excellent character at the hotel. It is a good mix of old style hotel and knew facilities. Great shower. It has good parking and a reliable internet access
The breakfast with improvement. The hot food taste and presented as if it has been cooked earlier and kept in a warming tray, even though you ordered fresh from the menu. This is the only aspect that let's this hotel down.
It was conveninetly located for a trip to Tunbridge Wells. Friendly staff.
Decor was dated and tired in our room, and I felt it could have been cleaner. Plus had the old fashioned style of sheet & blanket rather than duvet, which for the price surprised me.
